APMCDRR Homepage

The Government of the Philippines partners with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) to host the next Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) from 14 to 18 October 2024 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila (18 October is reserved for an optional site visit). The APMCDRR is the main platform in Asia and the Pacific to monitor, review and enhance cooperation for the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 at the regional level.

The conference brings together governments, intergovernmental, international, national and civil society organizations, the private sector, science, academia and stakeholder groups to accelerate progress in reducing disaster risk.

As the first regional platform since the adoption of the Political Declaration of the Sendai Framework Midterm Review, the APMCDRR 2024 will be held under the working theme “Surge to 2030: Enhancing ambition in Asia-Pacific to accelerate disaster risk reduction”. The conference will provide an important opportunity to review risk reduction efforts, share innovative solutions and make actionable commitments to accelerate disaster risk reduction by 2030 in the world’s most disaster-prone region.

A detailed overview of the conference is available in the APMCDRR 2024 Concept note.

The APMCDRR 2024 will be organized around three thematic pillars and four cross-cutting themes.

Pillars

  • Practical solutions to enhance disaster risk reduction financing
  • Leaving no one behind: gender responsive and inclusive disaster risk governance
  • Localization and urban and rural resilience

Cross-cutting themes

  • Science, technology and knowledge
  • Multi-stakeholder coordination and collaboration
  • Convergence and coherence
  • Full private sector engagement
